Cruise to Run, now in its third year, has more than doubled its original size and is completely sold out.
There are now 350 people set to sail on the popular Caribbean Cruise which includes distance running events at each port of call.
Cruise To Run will leave San Juan Puerto Rico on February 1st and will visit Barbados (Tuesday, February 3), St. Lucia (Wednesday February 4), Antigua (Thursday February 5), Tortola (Friday February 6) and St. Thomas (Saturday February 7), before returning to San Juan on February 8.
Participants on the cruise participants represent four countries, including 183 from Canada, 154 from the USA, four from England and nine from Bermuda, with 7 Canadian provinces represented and 21 US states.
According to managing director, Jerry Friesen (left), a smart partner in the upcoming Powerade Run Barbados Series, “Many of the runners are coming from the colder climates and are looking forward to escaping to the Caribbean to participate in the sport they love, and take some time to enjoy everything else the beautiful islands have to offer.”
The Cruise to Run Barbados 5k will take place on Tuesday February 3 at 10:00 a.m. leaving from the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation (BIDC) building and running along the Spring Garden Highway and back to the finish.
Local runners and visitors on the island are welcomed to compete for the awards that will be presented to the overall winners and age group participants.
The athletes will later be traveling over to Carlisle Bay for a swim and an afternoon on the beach. Cruise To Run is donating Cruise To Run Barbados 5k T-shirts to the BTA that will be sold to the runners to raise funds for a Barbados community race clock.
Jerry and his wife, Jody Friesen, are the organizers of Cruise To Run expressed their deepest thanks to the staff of the BTA and the people of Barbados for their continued support and are already in the planning stages of Cruise To Run 2010.
Jerry and Jody continue to play an instrumental role in the planning of the Powerade Run Barbados series, which will take place from December 4 – 6, 2009.
Run Barbados adds new events to fill the needs of all Runners in the Run Barbados Series.
This year events have been added to the Run Barbados Schedule to increase not only the number of participants but those who can participate.
Friday Night Midnight Mile and international Friendship Run - We are encouraging everyone to come out and run or walk a mile with all of the competitors in Run Barbados and welcome everyone to the island. This is the chance to start the weekend and show everyone why The Run Barbados slogan is "Come for the Run , Stay for the Fun".
Saturday - A 3 kilometer run has been added to the already exciting 10k run. This run will feature school children to give them the opportunity to particpate on the same routes and cross the same finish line as some of the best runners in the world.
Sunday - A 5K run has been added to the Marathon and Half Marathon for Sunday morning for those who like shorter distances and for those who are not quite ready to tackle the longer distance but want to be part of this great event.
The Barbados Challenge - For those who feel one race is not enough.
Run three of the following events and receive a special commemorative medal. Four Medals Three Events.
Gold Medal – Run the Mile Friday , 10k Saturday, and the Marathon Sunday
Silver Medal – Run the Mile Friday,10k Saturday, and the Half Marathon Sunday
Bronze Medal – Run the Mile Friday, 10k Saturday and the 5k on Sunday
